A terrified child experiences his world as an unsafe place and himself as powerless. To cope, traumatized children withdraw, develop attachment disorders, phobic behaviors or dissociate, become hypervigiliant or aggressive and assaultive, all to overcome their chronic state of fear and sense of powerlessness. Traumatized children can often look like ADHD and oppositionally defiant children. Traumatized children do experience cognitive dysfunctions making it difficult to concentrate, remember and learn. The What Color Is Your Hurt? program provides trauma-specific interventions which can help children find relief from the terror, the fear, the hurt, the worry, the anger, the guilt and the sadness.
